Meeting in Rothbury to discuss flood issues

Tuesday, November 03, 2009

A public meeting will be held in Jubilee Hall, Rothbury on Tuesday 10th November to discuss the issues which arose from the flood events of 2008 in Rothbury and Upper Coquetdale.

Residents are invited to come along at 7pm to discuss any problems they have and to talk about issues they would like to be considered for flood preventative or additional flood resilience measures.

This is also an opportunity for local people to hear what proposals are currently being considered by Northumberland County Council, the Environment Agency and Northumberland National Park.

Representatives from Natural England and the Rural Development Agency will also be attending.

A meeting has already been held Rothbury in September 2009 to talk about flood resilience issues and the meeting on November 10th will be able to provide an update on what has happened since then.

Councillor Alan Armstrong, Executive Member for Highways and Transport, said:  “I would encourage as many local residents as possible to come along to this meeting as it is a great opportunity to meet with all of the agencies responsible for flood prevention measures in this area and to hear what proposals we are currently considering.”

“We would really like to hear from people about what they think about our proposals but we would also like to discuss what they feel could be done in their areas to improve flood resilience.”

If you are unable to attend this meeting but would still like to submit your views, please email them to northernareahighways@northumberland.gov.uk or write to Richard Hayes, Northern Area Highways Manager, Willowburn Trading Estate, Alnwick, NE66 2PF.
