Following a number of calls from
members of the community in South East Northumberland, the County
Council has confirmed that there will be no firework event in Blyth
this November.
A spokesperson said: “We are planning to
support the running of a public event in South East Northumberland
in the coming months, but there will unfortunately be no fireworks
event this November.
“While no event has been promoted or
publicised this year a large number of people have called because
they have attended an event in previous years, and we are sorry for
any disappointment.
“We have been overwhelmed by the amount of
enquiries we have received and are extremely grateful for the
amount of support the public have showed for the ‘Blyth in a New
Light’ style events.
“We would like to assure people that plans are
underway to hold a public event in the coming months – and will
provide further information as soon as possible.
The council wants to encourage people to stay
safe this bonfire night by attending an organised display and
following the Bonfire and Fireworks codes.
Chief fire officer and director of community
safety at Northumberland County Council Brian Hesler said:
“We want everyone to have a happy and memorable bonfire night – for
the right reasons. I would urge everyone to make sure they
attend a reputable organised bonfire and fireworks display, which
will have safety measures in place. Going to an organised
display means that everyone can have a safe and enjoyable
evening.”
Should you wish to attend an organised fireworks display, there
are professionally run events taking place on the 7th
November from 6pm at Hexham and on the 8th November,
from 5pm at Morpeth Rugby Club.
In neighbouring North Tyneside the annual fireworks display
returns to The Links, Whitley Bay on 1st November. The
spectacular free organised display is a family favourite and will
feature food stalls and fairground rides.

safety, and about events in Northumberland, is available on the
