Council tax. Council tax replaced Poll tax on 1st April 1993. The
law relating to Council tax is contained within the Local
Government Finance Act 1992, and subsequent Regulations. Council
tax goes towards paying for council services including education
and social services.
The council tax rates are published each year together with
information on how rates are assessed, eligibility and how to
pay.
